Sub-cardioid pattern combined with a soft, low-cut shelf pulls instruments forward even from far away. However, there is still generous ambience in the signal. The design eliminates the proximity-effect known with most standard cardioids and gives a true smooth low-frequency curve in any application.

Taylor says:
"We were originally experimenting with the same capsules that form the basis of our BS-3D. I wanted a string-section mic that would work in the studio or in a great concert hall: directional, but still picking up ambience and overtones that make up the section voicings. The mic had to be able to work close in, or high above, and still be true. It does - in spades."
